Category Archives: time I imagine life as a journey through time, that each moment is a gift. People, places and circumstances change around us. We make choices that will help to create the life we experience. When I create my art, I try to make each stroke as close to my heart as possible. Every choice I make…  Observe! Yes, you heard me, look around and find the little moments around corners and in the most obscure times and places! Stop as you turn the corner in the grocery store and take in the patterns of bright red, orange and yellow colors of beets and deep green leaves in the produce section. Take…  It is good for us to reflect on the simplicity and focus that Steve Jobs incorporated into his life. He never gave up, on his inner visions. As a result his actions have had a very obvious positive effect on our lives. He also kept encouraging us to do the same. “Your work is… show 2 comments 
Agreed, Joan! The funny thing about day to day living is that we often forget that we have no guarantee that we are going to awaken the next day. I know that I think my art is my greatest work, but it may be the time I shared my homemade bread with some fishermen working their second job on my shift at a fabric printing factory. And as you described, a person’s “great work” can continue to change…even on a daily basis. 
The great work is different for each person and can change throughout one’s lifetime. In short, though, I would like to think that we can each put back a bit more than we take from the world, each according to their abilities. Knowing that there are time constraints can certainly keep some momentum going!  Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly… show 9 comments

Thank you, Trisha. The man was inspiring when you wsee that he kept going forward or around difficulties, transforming them relentlessly, even, it appears, to his acceptance of the finality of his life.

I was trying to respond to the newest blog with the sumptuous rendering of pines and trees in a summer wind. Somehow I ended up in the warm quiet evening scene which is not where my head is but I guess my heart took me there, maybe to quiet my inner voice. Anyway, my creativity too never ceases when I allow myself to see beyond the triflings of house and job. When I am truly beyo d the wear and tear of a moment I can even see the beauty and simplicity of the very thing that I detest doing… Like the dishes that are calling me…and the wet laundry…. And the lesson plans… But while I drive today to visit my mom, I will have my iPad and I will be drawing and thinking about the lushness of charcoal and India Ink and the sensuality of clay

I read the link to Scott Belsky and read his thoughts. Then listened to the speech Steve Jobs gave at Standford. Both were helpful to me and filled with inspiration.
